A quasi tre anni dalla nascita, la Galleria Overfoto di Napoli raddoppia gli spazi espositivi inaugurando, il prossimo 7 maggio 2008 alle ore 18:30 (9:30 SLT) la sua prima “succursale virtuale” nel metaverso di Second Life. La sede della galleria è costituita da un’intera SIM (isola di 65.000 mq) nella quale sono stati costruiti in 3D quattro padiglioni in stile minimalista-industriale e nei quali verranno inaugurate con scadenza bimestrale esposizioni collettive e personali di artisti che incentrano la propria ricerca sulla tematica dei new media.
Ricerca artistica e sperimentazione creativa, da sempre linee guida della galleria napoletana, trovano un’ulteriore opportunità espressiva in questo nuovo spazio stabile, la cui assoluta peculiarità e punto di forza è di varcare i confini fisici dello spazio e aprirsi alla fruibilità potenzialmente illimitata dal punto di vista geografico e temporale, consentita dalla rete.
Ciò avviene a qualche mese di distanza dalla prima “incursione” nel mondo della realtà virtuale, avvenuta con la mostra Shooting Pixels, inaugurata nello scorso dicembre in contemporanea a Napoli e in Second Life.
Il vernissage avrà luogo nel padiglione principale della Galleria, i cui ambienti ospiteranno i lavori fotografici di Marco Manray Cadioli, l’artista milanese, che attraverso i suoi scatti contribuisce già da alcuni anni a testimoniare l’evoluzione continua e costante della realtà virtuale.
Nella mostra REPLICA presenta due nuove serie di opere che si discostano dai lavori precedenti di reportage.
I paesaggi in b/n di “Why is there something rather than nothing”, scattati nelle aree di Second Life selvagge e non ancora contaminate dall’uomo, iperrealistici e stranianti al tempo stesso.
E “Replica”, una serie di ritratti di cloni di avatars, una folla che cammina verso di noi come in un “Quarto Stato di Second Life”, e che da il titolo alla mostra stessa.
Nota biografica autore:
Marco Cadioli documenta l’evoluzione del Metaverso attraverso la fotografia dal 2003. Inizia viaggiando nel Web per il progetto Internet Landscape, poi entra nei giochi di guerra come fotografo “embedded” per AREANAE (2005), un reportage in b/n dalle guerre in rete scattato nei giochi multiuser. Nel 2006 realizza il video “Interview with the Robot” un’intervista di 7 minuti a Lucy, un’intelligenza artificiale.
Net Reporter in Second Life con l’avatar Marco Manray, ha pubblicato suoi reportage su riviste e quotidiani internazionali quali Liberation, Elle, Repubblica. Autore del libro: “IO, REPORTER IN SECOND LIFE” Shake Edizioni, Milano 2007.
Insegna all’Accademia di Comunicazione di Milano e all’Accademia di belle arti SantaGiulia di Brescia.

Almost three years after its birth, the Neapolitan Gallery Overfoto, doubles its exhibition space opening on the next May 7 2008 at 18:30 (9:30 SLT) its first "virtual branch" in the virtual world of Second Life. The seat of the gallery consists of a SIM (island of 65,000 square metres) constructed in four 3D minimalist-style industrial pavilions, where will be inaugurated, with a bimonthly cadency, collective and personal exhibitions of artists who focus their research on the new media subject.
Artistic search and creative experimentation, which always have guidelined the Neapolitan Gallery, find further opportunities in this new expressive stable space, whose absolute specificity and strength consists in crossing the boundaries of physical space, and open to the potentially unlimited - from a geographical and temporal point of view- usability, permitted by the network.
This happens a few months away from the first "incursion" in the world of virtual reality, occurred with the exhibition Shooting Pixels, inaugurated on last December, at the same time in Naples and in Second Life.
The vernissage will take place in the main hall of the Gallery, whose environments will host the work of net-photographic artist, Marco Manray Cadioli: through his shots the artist, who is from Milan, has been contributing for several years to witness the continuous and steady evolution of virtual reality.
With Replica, the exhibition, he presents two new series of works that depart from previous works of reportage.
Black and white landscapes of "Why is there something rather than nothing", taken in the still wild and not yet contaminated areas of Second Life by man, iperrealistic and abstract at the same time.
And "Replica", portraits of avatars’ clones, a crowd walking toward us like a "Quarto stato of Second Life", and which gives the title to the exhibition.
Biographical note:
Marco Cadioli has been documenting the evolution of the virtual worlds through photography since 2003. He begins travelling through the Web for the project “Internet Landscapes”, then enters War Games as a photographer embedded for AREANAE (2005), a black and white reportage from Network wars, made in Multi-shot games. In 2006 he realizes the video "Interview with the Robot" , a 7 minutes interview with Lucy, artificial intelligence.
Net Reporter in Second Life, with the avatar Marco Manray, his reports were published on international magazines and newspapers such as Liberation, Elle, Repubblica. Author of the book: "I, REPORTER IN SECOND LIFE" Shake Editions, Milan 2007.
He teaches Communication at Milan and the Academy of Fine Arts SantaGiulia Brescia.
